September 3, 2009 (COLUMBUS) The Ohio School Facilities Commission today approved a resolution calling for the executive director to make recommendations to the Comission on strategically aligning Ohio's school construction programs with the needs of a 21st century learning environment.
The resolution directs the executive director to review and make recommendations in the following areas:
1. Develop a clear definition of a 21st century physical learning environment and a strategic plan to achieve the building of 21st century learning environments.
2. Develop recommendations on quality construction practices and sustainable funding.
3. Promote effective community partnerships, including joint-use and collaborative service agreements, among others.
4. Promote the strategic alignment of Commission programs and the Ohio School Design Manual to support the education reforms adopted in HB 1.
The executive director may establish workgroups for each of these objectives and is slated to provide an interim report and recommendations at the December Commission meeting.
