OSFC Legislative Liaison Charles Brading announces retirement

September 29, 2009 (COLUMBUS) Charles M. (Charlie) Brading, legislative liaison for the Ohio School Facilities Commission, has announced his retirement, effective October 8, 2009.

Brading’s announcement marked the conclusion of a long and distinguished career in public service. In addition to his service with the Commission, which began on October 7, 2001, Brading was state representative from the 86th Ohio House district from 1991 through 2000. His tenure in the House included service on the Health-Retirement-Aging, Veteran’s Affairs, Rules, and Reference committees. He served as Chairman of the House Education Committee for several years. Following his service in the House, he was Special Assistant for Education to former Governor Robert Taft.

Brading is a 1957 graduate of Ohio Northern University where he received a degree n pharmacy. He served in the U.S. Army and then returned to his hometown of Wapakoneta, where he practiced pharmacy in his family’s store for 33 years. Brading served on the Ohio Board of Pharmacy for eight years and was presented president of the Board from 1979 – 80. He is also a former Mayor of Wapakoneta and a member of Wapakoneta City Council.

OSFC Executive Director Richard Murray called Brading’s long tenure in public service “an inspiration to those looking for a career in service to the community.” He went on to say that “I have known Charlie in many of his capacities and I know how respected he is by his colleagues here at the Commission and those with whom he works in the General Assembly. We all join in thanking Charlie for his work and guidance and in wishing him a happy retirement.”

Established in 1997, the Commission is responsible for administration of the state’s school construction and renovation program. The Commission is currently working with, or has completed all necessary work in, nearly two-thirds of the state’s 613 school districts.

On September 10, 2012, the Commission was consolidated with the Office of the State Architect to form the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission. The Ohio School Facilities Commission continues to exist as a separate commission within the new agency, focusing on funding Ohio’s comprehensive K-12 school construction program.
