2016 OFCC Conference

The annual OFCC Conference brings together public owners (state agencies/universities, school districts), architects, engineers, landscape architects and planners, construction managers, design-builders, contractors, subcontractors and suppliers, consultants and specialty service providers, and construction attorneys.

The format for the 2017 conference will be different than the last several years. This year, OFCC issued a call for speaker proposals. The majority of speakers will present at two of the four events, Columbus & Cincinnati or Cleveland & Columbus.

Conference presentations are divided into the following topic areas (all topics may not be presented at each location):

  • Innovative Learning
  • Virtual Design
  • Collaboration
  • Operations/Sustainability
  • Scanning/Testing
  • Apps
  • OFCC Updates

Each presenter at this year's Conference will have 15 minutes and six slides each to present their topic -- similar to the popular Ted Talks. For those not familiar with Ted Talks, TED Talks are concise. Because time is short (generally, 5-18 minutes), speakers have done the hard work of cutting out any extraneous ideas. So, these Ted-style presentations are a first for the OFCC Conference!

2017 Call for Speaker Proposals - Due April 28

Call for Speakers

The Ohio Facilities Construction Commission invites you to submit a topic for one of the coveted speaker slots in our upcoming annual OFCC Conference. We are seeking speakers to present at two of the four events, Columbus #1 & Cincinnati or Cleveland & Columbus #2.

The 2017 OFCC Conference will showcase captivating speakers who will have 15 minutes and six slides each to present a single game-changing innovation to improve public construction.

Topic Areas

The presentations will be divided into the following topic areas:

  • Technology Solutions/Breakthroughs - effective use of project data, construction apps, reality capture, BIM, virtual design & construction, virtual reality, augmented reality, drones, robotics, other trends
  • Collaboration Innovations/Integrative Design - rise of collaborative culture, novel design/construction methods, off-site prefabrication, unexpected partnerships
  • High Performance Strategies - LEED, energy conservation, sustainability, leadership, research initiatives
  • Lessons Learned from My Most Challenging Public Project - game-changing projects, overcoming insurmountable obstacles, causes of building failures, "aha" moments
  • Adapting to Trends in Construction - labor shortages, generational differences, market cycles, speed of innovation, emerging business models

Selection Criteria

The submissions will be evaluated on relevance, quality of the topic, and presentation skills of the speakers. The speakers should be both engaging and entertaining to captivate the audience's attention throughout the presentation.

Content presented should be vendor neutral with no advertising or marketing information. OFCC may request select speakers to also participate in a brief panel discussion or Q&A with others in the same tract. Application does not guarantee placement on the agenda.
