March 26, 2010 (COLUMBUS) Ohio School Facilities Commission (OSFC) Executive Director Richard C. Murray informed the Commission that the capital reappropriations bill (HB 462 – passed yesterday by the Ohio General Assembly) provides an additional $525 million to the Commission to continue construction and renovation work in Ohio public schools. Murray said that this new funding, when combined with the remaining funds from Governor Ted Strickland’s $4.1 billion tobacco securitization initiative and local matching funds, will support nearly 29,000 job opportunities for Ohio workers.
“With the passage of HB 462, we will be able to provide Ohio’s next generation with high quality 21st Century learning environments while we also provide more jobs for Ohioans,” Murray said. “The Commission will continue our partnerships with local districts as we address the ongoing facilities needs of districts around the state.”
Murray indicated that an announcement on which Ohio public school districts would be added to the project lists will be made later this spring.
