OSFC announces construction management awards

October 23, 2009 (COLUMBUS) Executive Director Richard C. Murray announced that the Commission has selected firms to provide construction management services for 25 OSFC-funded projects across Ohio.

The construction management companies serve as OSFC’s on-site representatives during the construction process and are, among other duties, responsible for maintaining the construction schedule and the supervision of trade contracting companies. Firms are selected through an intensive competitive process that involves submission of proposals, reviews and evaluations by OSFC staff, and an interview before a selection panel.

Executive Director Murray said he was “very pleased with the results of this year’s process. We purposely looked for firms that emphasized quality construction and had a track record of jobsite performance. These firms indicated their understanding of this agency’s commitment to quality and unwillingness to tolerate substandard work.”

Murray went on to note that the selection was the next step in a process started in July with the announcement of the 25 districts who would be offered construction and renovation funds during the current fiscal year. “The projects represent nearly $1.3 billion in capital investment in Ohio,” Murray said. “We expect the projects to generate about 4,400 employment opportunities annually for the next two years.”

About OFCC

Established in 1997, the Commission is responsible for administration of the state’s school construction and renovation program. The Commission is currently working with, or has completed all necessary work in, nearly two-thirds of the state’s 613 school districts.

On September 10, 2012, the Commission was consolidated with the Office of the State Architect to form the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission. The Ohio School Facilities Commission continues to exist as a separate commission within the new agency, focusing on funding Ohio’s comprehensive K-12 school construction program.
