Spence named OSFC Legislative Liaison

March 31, 2011 (COLUMBUS) Sarah Spence of Columbus has been named as Legislative Liaison for the Ohio School Facilities Commission (OSFC). The announcement was made by OSFC Executive Director Richard Hickman, who said, “Sarah’s background gives her an extensive knowledge of the legislative process, experience in working with the Commission, and an understanding of education that will be of enormous benefit as we work with the General Assembly." Hickman went on to add that, “We are looking forward to having her as a part of our team.”

Spence joins OSFC after having served four years in the office of State Senator Gary Cates, a former member of OSFC. Her work in the legislature has concentrated on both the Finance and Education committees. Prior to her work at the Senate, she served as the Southeast Regional Representative for the Ohio Secretary of State’s office.

Spence is a graduate of Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. While at O.U., she was selected as the first Leona and Lewis Hughes Manasseh-Cutler Scholar. She is a native of Oak Hill, Ohio (Jackson County) and the daughter of Phil Spence and Diana Spence.

About OFCC

Established in 1997, the Commission is responsible for administration of the state’s school construction and renovation program. The Commission is currently working with, or has completed all necessary work in, nearly two-thirds of the state’s 613 school districts.

On September 10, 2012, the Commission was consolidated with the Office of the State Architect to form the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission. The Ohio School Facilities Commission continues to exist as a separate commission within the new agency, focusing on funding Ohio’s comprehensive K-12 school construction program.
