May 30, 2019 (COLUMBUS) – On behalf of the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission, Ohio Office of Budget and Management Director Kimberly Murnieks has announced the appointment of Jon C. Walden as Interim Executive Director of the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (Commission), effective June 1, 2019.
Mr. Walden is currently the Chief Legal Counsel and Ethics Officer for the Commission. In that position he is responsible for the risk management and legal oversight of the agency responsible for guiding capital projects for Ohio state agencies, state supported universities and community colleges, Ohio’s comprehensive public K-12 school construction and renovation program, and Ohio’s grant process for cultural facilities and community schools. In his role, he also manages the contract drafting process for Ohio’s public construction contract templates, any litigation brought by the Commission, contract claims, bid protests, terminations and investigations surrounding state construction contractors.
Prior to assuming his current position, Mr. Walden served as the Manager for Contracts Compliance with the Ohio School Facilities Commission and an Assistant Attorney General for the Ohio Attorney General in the Construction Litigation Group, where he represented state agencies and universities, including The Ohio State University on various construction matters. Before returning to public service, Mr. Walden worked in private practice with the Bailey Cavalieri LLC and Arter & Hadden law firms practicing in the Directors & Officer Liability group.
Mr. Walden is admitted to practice in Ohio, all federal courts in Ohio, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Walden received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in 1990, and his J.D. degree, with honors, from the Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University in 1994.
At its May 23, 2019 meeting, Director Murnieks announced the resignation of Executive Director David Williamson as part of his retirement from state service. Director Murnieks thanked Mr. Williamson for his over twenty years of state service and his commitment to the Commission for the past three and a half years.
Director Murnieks will lead the process of filling the Executive Director position over the coming weeks. More information about the process will be available on the Commission’s website.
